Well, I did not do too well in the first week as I went 16-5 (76.2%). Most folks would be satisfied with this record, but I'm not. And of course, if I'm not happy, nobody around here is gonna be happy! I've got to redeem myself this week. Of course, no one has challenged me on my picks or has questioned my knowledge of the high school pigskin. It's still good to be king, huh?

The most ridiculous pick I made was picking West Stokes, last year's 2AA state champion, to defeat Albemarle. Boy, was I way off as the Bulldogs won 41-7. What the heck???

I also did not too well (4-4) in other Yadkin Valley 1A conference games. Chatham Central surprised me versus Wake Christian, ditto for Elkin over East Montgomery, and North Rowan is much better than I expected as they defeated Carson. And, I did miss a matchup involving a Southeastern 4A conference team, as Pine Forest shocked Purnell Swett.

This week's game of the week is gonna be a good one, as New Hanover, ranked #7 in 4A according to CarolinaPreps.com, travels to Laurinburg to take on Scotland, ranked #5 in 4A. Last year, Scotland won a 49-28 battle down in the Port City.

Other area teams ranked according to CarolinaPreps.com are Richmond Senior ranked #2 in 4A, Douglas Byrd, ranked #5 in 3A, Albemarle, ranked #2 in 1A and North Rowan, ranked #9 in 1A.

Oops!!! Those Richmond County folks are gonna be mad at me for leaving them out of this post while discussing Top 10 ranked teams. The Raiders are ranked #2 in 4A behind Matthews Butler. If pod seeding in the playoffs kicks in, and Richmond Senior goes west, this will be a third round game. Throw away the pods, definitely a 4AA West title game (the Raiders are amongst the larger schools in the 4A classification). I can't see Richmond Senior in the Eastern 4AA bracket.
