Reuben's Yadkin Valley 1A Conference 2012 Regular Season Football Predictions

Last season did not produce any state championships for YVC 1A teams, but two teams almost made it to state title games. Last year' conference champion, Albemarle, almost made it to the 1A title game, but lost to eventual state 1A champion Murphy 42-41 in double overtime in the West 1A title game.
West Montgomery ran out to a 28-0 first quarter lead, but faded away after that as Swain County came back to take a 37-35 win in the West 1AA title game, and eventually win the state 1AA championship one week later.
Albemarle will be back to win another conference title and perhaps add another state title to its collection. West Montgomery will have lots of young talent and will try to forget last year's 1AA West championship game and make another long playoff run.
Trying to upstage the Bulldogs and Warriors will be South Stanly and North Rowan. South Stanly will have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, and they will have a new head coach in former North Rowan head coach Tasker Fleming. North Rowan will also challenge as they are led by new head coach and former West Rowan assistant Joe Nixon.
East Montgomery will lead the bottom tier as Phil Collett comes in from Virginia to take over as head coach of the Eagles. Bringing up the rear will be South Davidson, Chatham Central and North Moore.
This season will most likely be a repeat of last season for the Mustangs. The numbers coming out for football are low at North Moore as just over 30 players reported for the first practice. Most likely, the Mustangs will not field a JV team this fall. NM currently has a 21 game on-the-field losing streak (there was a forfeit win over West Montgomery in 2010), and, unless more players suit up or some other kind of miracle happens, that losing streak could reach up to 32 by season's end.
Yadkin Valley 1A
- Albemarle, 7-0 conference, 10-1 overall
- West Montgomery 6-1, 9-2
- South Stanly, 5-2, 9-2
- North Rowan, 4-3, 5-6
- East Montgomery 3-4, 5-6
- South Davidson, 2-7, 3-8
- Chatham Central, 1-6, 2-9
- North Moore, 0-7, 0-11

North Moore has 50+ out this year. I went by each school last week and there was quiet a few players out there. I don't think NM needs a miracle. It looks like their coach has them heading in the right direction. Many of the 1A teams in NM's conference would destroy UP and PC as well. It's a tough conference so my hats off to the coaches and young men out there working hard. One of my friends coaches up there and he told me that Coach Simmons is doing all of the right things to change the programs direction. Reuben maybe you should ride up and take a look yourself instead of depending on rumors. As for UP and PC, I believe UP will be lucky to win a couple of games and PC will have to prove that they can play with the big boys. I live here and many are tired of all the hype. Win a conference championship or lets look for new leadership.

The upper tier of the YVC (Albemarle, West Montgomery, South Stanly and North Rowan) would beat UP. Albemarle and West Montgomery would definitely give Pinecrest a competitive game, and maybe pull off a win. There's a huge difference though between the upper and lower tiers of the YVC. The YVC definitely won't be anything like the Southeastern 4A where anyone in the conference can beat anyone on any given night. There is huge difference between the upper and lower teams in the YVC. The lower tier teams of the YVC would be beaten handily by UP or PC. As for NM's #s, I'm just going by what James W. Houston reported earlier. I'm also hearing East Montgomery has varsity/JV #s in the 30s.
UP will be fortunate to win two wins, but those wins will be against two YVC lower tier teams. The conference losing steak will continue. PC will be able to compete in the SE 4A, but their offense has yet to be tested.

OK, GroundTroops, I am now hearing NM is in the 50s from a few other sources. More kids must've showed up since the first practice. I am hearing that Albemarle is in the 60s Chatham Central in the 50s, West Montgomery in the 60s, East Montgomery still in the 30s or maybe low 40s, North Rowan in the 60s, South Davidson in the 40s. Have not heard anything about South Stanly. Numbers are so critical in 1A football.
