Well, it's week 8. Only went 6-2 last week (75%). Douglas Byrd disappointed me greatly with all those turnovers versus Overhills. Could Overhills run the table in conference play after losing their first five games? Also, Hoke County kinda shocked me losing to Anson County. Overall, my record stands at 92-18 (83.6%).
For this week's game of the week, I think I'll choose Lumberton at Pinecrest. I'm just wondering if this is the week we see the Patriots that ran the table in a weak non-conference schedule, or, will the Patriots finally get a taste of some real competition??? Other interesting games include Purnell Swett at Scotland County and East Montgomery visiting South Stanly.
Also, I want to give congratulations to Southern Lee finally breaking a 25 game losing skein last week as the Cavaliers defeated Western Harnett in a 51-48 shootout. I am hoping Union Pines will extend Western Harnett's present losing skid to nine games, but if the Vikings play like they played the last three games (no running game and a very ineffective offensive line), I'm very doubtful.
Finally, Southeastern 4A conference play begins, and Pinecrest gets to play some real football teams as opposed to the "cream puffs" they faced in non-conference play. I still think any team can beat any other team on any given night in conference play. Even Hoke County could pull off a shocker or two. And, will this be the year Scotland County defeats Richmond County? The last Scots win over the Raiders was 1995.
