It used to be that if you were at a high school football game and wanted to keep up with other games, you had hope that the PA guy had a landline phone in the press box and that he had some buddies at other schools with the same setup. Or, you had to rush home to catch Football Friday on WRAL (or watch some other local TV sports cast) to get scores. And if worse came to worst, you had to wait for the Saturday newspaper to come out.
In this day and age of cell phones, the world wide web (Thank you Al Gore! -- HA HA!) and wireless technology, being at a high school football game and getting scores from other games is fairly quick and even painless.
One web site, which I frequently visit, carolinapreps.com is now delivering scores via Twitter. Carolinapreps.com did relay scores via a text messaging network, but the numbers became so large that CarolinaPreps.com Web site Director Chris Hughes' cell phone was crashing quite often. Thus, to accomodate the growing number followers, CarolinaPreps.com will be sending out Friday night high school football scores via Twitter.
Now, you DO NOT have to have a smart phone to do this. You DO NOT have to make tweets on Twitter. All you have to do is have an account and have CarolinaPreps.com Twitter page send text alerts to your phone. The alerts will come in the form of a regular text message. To receive score updates, go to Twitter.com/CarolinaPreps1 and follow us. Be sure to set it to send you text updates from CarolinaPreps1. Once you do that, you'll receive all football score updates in the form of a text message.
I'm gonna try the Twitter/text messaging deal and see how it goes. There is a link to a video on youtube.com that will explain the Twitter process. Also, while on the web site, you can catch all the latest high school football news and information. And, if you check out the message boards, you may also get a comment or two from yours truly. Whether, you use the Twitter service or not, do feel free to check out CarolinaPreps.com and tell them that ol' RD sent you!
