As I typed the headline for this blog, I chuckled as the quips and one-liners raced through my brain. But, I digress. The gist of this post is that there have been several sightings of a fox or foxes in Pinehurst reported to us. Spoke to folks at NC Wildlife Commission and Moore County Animal Control. They said there is nothing to worry about so long as the animal doesn't exhibit any strange behavior, or appears to be injured. Foxes can get rabies and distemper. Both conditions will cause the animal to stager and act abnormally. If you see a fox that is acting this way, please stay away from it, and call your local police of animal control.

The grey fox is very common around here and indigenous to our area and normally does not cause any harm. Folks should be more concerned about the larger coyote (non indigenous); also becoming very common in and around Pinehurst. The coyote is a huge threat to your pets, especially cats and small to medium size dogs and sometimes humans....Mike

I stand by my first post in spite of all of the informative Wild Kingdom information.
