The second annual Celebration of the Military Child event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Pinehurst Arboretum. The event celebrates the courage of the military child. The event is co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills and the Pinehurst Parks and Rec Department. The event features plenty of kid-friendly activities, including the opportunity to interact with a mystery guest who is a television star. (The only hint I am giving you is that the celeb will be easily recognized by parents and kids alike). The event also featured guest speaker Colonel Stephen J. Sicinski, garrison commnader at Fort Bragg as well as performances by The 82nd Airborne Parachute Jump & Chorus teams. The Union PInes Band will also play at the event. April in Military Child month, and to celebrate that fact, and to lead into Saturday's event, Crain's Creeek Middle School is holding spirt week this week. To celebrate students will wear clothing that ties in to a particular day's theme. For example Thursday is Red, White and Blue day.
