There are a lot of things in this world I am not good at. Crossword puzzles, using chopsticks, driving at night and golf are just a few that readily come to mind.
Today, I can add another activity to that list -- kick boxing.
Cue "Kung Fu Fighting," the 1974 disco hit by Carl Douglas.
"Those kicks were fast as lightning.." Mine were slow and awkward.
"And it was a little bit frightening...." Or, in my case, horrifying.
There were a lot of things working against me today. Lack of coordination and lack of balance were the two major things.
Don't get me wrong, It was a pretty cool workout, but getting the proper technique and footwork down was challenging.
I don't think I have intentionally punched or kicked someone with intent to do bodily harm since I was in grade school. And I promise you, back then, proper form was not my major concern.
But let me tell you, slugging and kicking that bag was a fun way to relieve some pent up energy after last night's nearly 3-hour council meeting.
All in all, I think the experience was good. In four months as a human exercise guinea pig, I have learned a lot. I have experience a ton of new exercises that have boosted my workout and hopefully improved my overall health.
And I have so many more friends -- kettle bells, burpees, agility ropes, medicine balls and now boxing gloves... Can't wait for next week. Maybe I get to meet a new friend...
If you have any workout ideas, shoot them my way. I am up for trying anything and I will certainly blog about it.
As for the weigh-in, I felt like I worked harder this week than I have in other weeks, but it didn't show on the scale. No loss, no gain. Even.
Thanks to everyone who has commented on this blog and supported me as I have gone along.

I am also tortured/trained by Randy once a week at the gym. I made friends with KP, AL and Burbee some months ago along with the Turkish Getup and the Box Jump. Ask Randy to introduce the kettle bell workout to your routine – using lighter (yes, I said lighter) ones for the upper body workout and then using heavier ones for squats, turkish getups and not sure of the proper name but you lay flat on your back and arms are extended over your head w/kb in hand and you basically fold in half (awesome abs workout).
As much grief as I give Randy, he along with my workout partner helped me lose 20lbs! I still dread the mornings when my workout is scheduled but when I see the results in the mirror I realize it’s worth it – but don’t tell Randy I said so!
Best of luck in your weight loss adventure!

@Felicia. Thanks for the support, and congratulations on the new and improved you.
But, please, don't give Randy any ideas. He does read this.
