Christopher McDougall author of the best-selling book, "Born to Run" will be the guest speaker at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at the Pinecrest High School auditorium. The event is part of the Foundation of FirstHealth's Promise of Hope Lecture Series.
Having read the book, I would guess that the lecture could be fairly interesting. Don't want to spoil too much for those who haven't read it, but a simple question, "Why do my feet hurt" leads the author on a wild ride that includes and epic journey about running that features some of the greatest distance runners in the world, who incidentally, are some very colorful characters. The program is free and open to the public.
You don't have to be an avid runner or fitness nut to enjoy the book. It's a good story and a quick read. If you can't make the lecture, I would still encourage you to read the book.
To register, call (910) 695-7510. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and a book signing will follow the program at approximately 7 p.m. For copies of the book, visit a local bookstore.
