School is back in session and I am sure there are plenty of children and parents experience a wide range of emotions.

I was thinking about school memories last night and was reminded of the time I walked to school only to return home crying eager to tell my mother that the school was gone. As it happened, the school, of course, wasn't gone, but it was rather foggy that particular morning and though the school was less than three blocks from the house, I couldn't see the building.

To a distraught six-year-old, it was gone. Thankfully upon my return trip I discovered that the school was there.

Was hoping some of you out there would be interested in sharing your first-day of school memories on this blog.

How about the first day of high school? I had gone to both elementary and middle school here in Sou. Pines and the idea of going to the huge Pinecrest High School for the first time was terrifying. Prior to the first day of school, there was a freshman orientation night and all freshmen were given their class schedules and locker combinations. We were also shown around the school that night in hopes that we would not get lost on our first day. I am sure it was quite obvious on the first day of high school exactly who the freshmen were. I was so afraid that I would lose my class schedule and locker combination. Changing classes was a nightmare. It seemed like an obstacle course trying to get from class to your locker and to the next class all in five minutes. It was hard to be appear cool while clutching a little piece of paper in a death grip. I'm surprised that I can't remember what I wore that day. But that first day as a freshman in high school was 24 years ago and I did survive. I'm still amazed!
