Southern Pines Steak House

Blog: Southern Pines Steak House?

As I was outside enjoying nature yesterday I got to thinking about the uproar the construction of the new steak house in Southern Pines caused. If you remember the developer cut down one of the prettiest Deodora Cedars in the county to put up his "Ruth Chris."

Now I am not knocking the cutting down of the tree, as you recall the develop said the Arborist said the tree had to come down as it was diseased and would eventually die, they told us this after it had been hauled away BTW.

My question to anyone is what has happened with the restaurant? I was hoping someone here would know the status.

I was just asking this same question yesterday....why, hasn't the new steakhouse opened???

Thanks for the info smith78! I think they built a beautiful new building and I hope that they are able to open soon for everyone involved. I do wonder if this new restaurant will have a devastating impact on BeefEaters? Although, I'm thinking the prices will dictact who goes where.

There was an article in the Pilot not too long ago quoting the owner saying he would open in the spring.

@all I have placed a call to the developers to gather more information.

I had the opportunity to tour the facility and write a story back in the fall.

The inside was 99 percent complete then. The plan, as I understand it, is to open sometime this spring. Obviously we are only three days into spring, so they have some time.

As best I can deduce, the process of hiring staff is underway... Having seen the inside of that building and heard the plans, I can promise you that the owners have every intention of opening in the near future.

When I know more, you will too. For those interested, you can also find Southern Prime on facebook.

@all Another update: Just got of the phone with Phillip O'Connor, one of the owners of Southern Prime. He says things are moving forward, but the economy -- which O'Connor thinks is improving -- hasn't come back enough to justify opening a high-end steak house.

He says he and his fellow owners will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate things in April.

@NCgirl...... I agree that I do not belive it will hurt Beefeaters. Jim and Grace go out of thier way to make you feel at home in there resturant and that means alot. I know it makes my self and my family feel good about soending our money there. In these times when we do treat ourselves to dinner out it is always Beefeaters. We know that we are going to get great food and be very well taken care of. ( shout out to Mary, Lois, Michelle, Erica and Tammy! They always take great care of us)

from the looks of the building, it will probably be too expensive for me to eat there! so it dont really matter, to me, if they open or not!

I understand that a tentative opening date as of right now is mid February 2011-- this comes from a high-rolling investor
