Earlier in the 2nd quarter all of us in the WEEB broadcast booth observed that tempers seemed to be running high and said (on the air) the refs should take an official time out and go talk to both coaches and get them to get their players emotions back in check. The officials failed to do this, thus, they too contributed to the outbreak of emotions that occurred shortly thereafter. I think the refs were a big contributing factor to what ultimately happened. They are “trained” to see it coming and have the power to stop the game (or end it at that point) until they fell the situation is under control so that play can continue safely. The ultimate blame should be on their shoulders.
