@smith78 - Not sure, but, I'm assuming that a driver with a dog in their lap could be ticketed for 'Driving While Impaired'. Impaired covers many things, not just alcohol related issues.

I LOVE dogs and I would never drive with one of mine in my lap. They each have their own dogseat and they are strapped in for their safety.

Some people don't realize, that if they are in an accident with their pet in their lap and the airbag is deployed, it could actually kill the animal.

FYI....all CAPS is considered 'shouting' in the online world ;-)

Driving is easy as Jim Morrison used to say, Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. Dogs don't require you to look at them like texting or dialing a cell so I see no problem with this.

@Poundman - Even if the airbag is deployed and kills your dog??? Dogs are a distraction if not contained.

@poundman- it shows that you are not concerned with your saftey or other's people saftey whe you are allowing moving objects like dogs to move freely around the car when you are driving down the road.

How many times has a canine in the car actually caused a wreck? I am sure it has happened but come on,, maybe we should outlaw radios as people fiddle with the buttons can cause wrecks, no more drinks in autos as when you spill them it causes a reaching reaction resulting in a pileup, cell phones should be turned off as it multi tasking drivers are distracted and distracted drivers are dangerous, the list could go on and on.

I do know one solution for safer driving. Make anyone over the age of 70 have to pass a written test and drivers test every two years until they hit 80, then they have to take it every year.

DAMMMIT!!!! It's me, it's ME! OH NO!!! Ok, so I was on my way to take Miss Clover to the vet, to be honest, I didn't think it was such a BIG DEAL, letting her ride sitting on the console, with her cute little speckled head resting on my shoulder, wearing her new pink sundress, matching sun visor and sunglasses. Yes, she was all dressed up, as she never goes out w/o looking good. LOL WTF? Get a life smith78 and worry about ur own self. I drive more carefully when my dog is in he car than whenever she isn't. Yes, Miss Clover does love to dress up, she even picks out her outfits in Pet Smart, she knows exactly what she likes, and has her own closet, filled with pretty things to wear. I swear to this, if she likes an outfit, she will stand on 2 feet and hold her front paws up, ready to put it on. If she hates it, she will show much disintrest in it and if u insist on putting it on her, she will bite u. OK, so it musta been ME she is talking about. But, I am a safe driver with my dog in my lap.

Oh and by the way, letting a dog ride in ur lap isn't as dangerous as putting on make up, drinking coffee OR eating while driving.

@poncho - Kudo's to you for loving your dog so much!

But, I can only hope that you and Miss Clover are never the victims in a car accident, where Miss Clover would probably be injured the most. Have you ever experienced the impact of an airbag??? Trust me, you would never want your pup to experience it!!!

Buy Miss Clover her own doggie seat on one of your trips to PetSmart. Better yet, support a locally owned business and pick one up at Cared for Canine. It's a better investment than 'cute doggie outfits'!

Yeah Poundman!! smith78, have you driven around other counties looking for this dangerous practice? Is Moore Co. the worst? Be sure to keep your eyes on the road between scoping out other drivers. OMG

I have drove with my dog on my lap. I almost went off the road and couldn't see at some points. So I don't take her with me anymore. It is dangerous but some people will never admit it so why do we bother?

NCGIRL, thanks for the idea, I will do that. Ur 100% correct, I will go today and get her a doggie seat, dunno what I was thinking, thanks so much for careing. I certainly do want my baby safe and she can even pick out the one she wants, lol. She will be so much better off in a doggie seat. Cared for Canine is a wonderful place, we love it! Off we go! :)

@ poncho - Yahoo!!!! You made my day. By all means, Miss Clover should test out each doggie seat before making a decision!!! Happy travels to ya both >:o)
