As far as op-ed columnists go, they get no better than Maureen Dowd.

WE would all serve ourselves best by reading as much of her (work) as possible and hope some osmosis (no matter how little) occurs...

Meanwhile, the hottest of all hot-topic issues of late -- same-sex marriage -- is not going anywhere as the two political parties continue posturing with their conventions there on the near horizon. It has certainly drawn a considerable amount of user comments here at The Pilot online.

In her Sunday Column from last weekend's NY TIMES -- Seeking Original Bliss -- Dowd delved into one aspect of the issue, with diligence, regarding the recent "stance" Obama took involving the matter.

I highly recommend any of you politically-minded folks giving it a read.

Haven't read the column yet but LOVE Maureen. She cuts through an issue like a hot knife cuts through butter. Courage, wit, smarts...she has it all.

Thanks for reading and for posting the comment Deb. If you get a chance let me know what you thought of the column. Other than the small fact that you are a DUKE gal and I'm a CAROLINA guy, I think we basically hitch our apple wagons to the same star.

Maureen's column was right on, as usual. She is refreshingly non-partisan on issues, judging each by its merit. I'm convinced that Obama's stand on gay marriage...although pressured by Biden's blurt...was calculated by the numbers-crunchers. Read my upcoming opinion piece relating to capturing the "gay" vote, which includes everybody, Republican and Democrat, gay and straight, who believes in human rights. They are a loyal following.... At least Obama's on your side, Carolina-wise. But, I'm afraid even that endorsement was measured in votes.
