I feel so TORN after witnessing the final round of The Open. Thrilled for Ernie but DEVASTATED for Scott. It was a straight derailed train-wreck type collapse. What a dichotomy in the most theatrical of style. It is why Golf is the greatest of all games, because it is a microcosm of this kooky thing we call life, which can be brutally unfair and throw you bad breaks, but will also reward you over time for steadfastness, and a drive for excellence if you just keep plugging away towards your dream and passion.
Like a friend said to me a few minutes ago, Life is Golf and Golf is Life....
Golf is the grandest of all sports -- always has been, always will be -- and among the greatest of all teachers history has ever known or seen.

Golf is a game, a sport, a source of entertainment of which these players are more than aptly paid. Golf is a piece of life for those that engage in it in some form, period.

my reply to you is this: ignorance = bliss, so you "Courseaire," must be in pure bliss beyond belief, especially going around under the delusion that just because you decree something so it thereby is considered fact.

I don't think your opinion is any less nor more factual than mine. If you think Golf is Life, please support it with your facts. I'm have trouble understanding how anyone can be so devastated for Scott, he pocketed $800K for his 2nd place. I can see being devastated by Stevie not winning his 12th (I think) major, but not Scott. I'm sure he'll be just fine, after all Norman managed quite well.

Norman did manage quite well. I'm not sure Scott is in the same class as Norman. Norman did win some majors. I was devastated for Adam Scott because he crumbled under the pressure with a monumental breakdown the likes few have equaled. In everyway he had a chance to cash in. Sunday on the back nine at The Open was his moment to truly arrive once and for all and realize his true potential; instead he folded. He folded up in such a curious manner that I am unsure he will be able to contend for major titles again down the stretch. His putter and nerves are too balky. When I said golf is life I was speaking metaphorically. I am not the first to say it and I won't be the last. But like you I don't think my opinion is anything other than just that -- an opinion. I am glad to hear you feel the same about your views and are willing to engage in civil debate/discourse.
My main point is that the fate of the two golfers (Els and Scott) and the way it was exacted on the course was a demonstration of how life is unfair at times, while other times it is rewarding. It is always tough even at its best and at any given second you are always mere moments away from having the wheels fall off. That is the nature of life and it is what makes it beautiful (to me.) For people to embrace that aspect of life and overcome, while forging forward undaunted in the ultimate pursuit of their goals marks courage and shows charcter. I feel Els showed character in victory and Scott showed charcter as well as grace in defeat.
Somewhere I feel there is a lesson to be learned in that story as well as the future chapters in both men's golfing lives.
Thanks for reading and responding, I am thrilled any time my little blog illicits reaction. However if you thought you were going to summarily dismiss my blog posting as hogwash without my offering a retort then you were mistaken.
Cheers, F. Manning Jr
ps: don't even get me started on Stevie lol
