I will be spending this Wednesday afternoon in Fayetteville covering the Union Pines baseball and softball teams as they partake in 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference competition at the ball yards of Douglas Byrd High School.
The baseball team is all alone atop the league standings with a CFVC mark of 5-0 -- just one of three Vike teams (boy's tennis 7-0 and girls' soccer 7-0) to still be undefeated in the conference standings.
The softball team has a record of 5-1 in the league and is tied with Gray's Creek for the top spot.
With four teams in first place and a competitive boys' golf team and girls' track squad...it seems that Viking athletics may be in prime position to overtake Overhills inthe final standings in the The Wells Fargo Conference Cup for the Cape Fear Valley Conference.
Overhills is in a three-way tie for second place in soccer, fourth in baseball, sixth out of seven teams in SB and definitely not in the running for first in Tennis or Track.....SO
Should the four first-place Viking teams stay on course -- it seems UPHS will be the cream of the 2011-2012 CFVC crop.
