Coach Ragsdale Cannot Wait for UP Wrestling Season

Although it may be only week 2 of the high school football season, Viking wrestling coach Matt Ragsdale is super excited about the upcoming season for his Union Pines Program.

Check out an interview with Ragsdale as he discusses the prospects for the upcoming season and the Vikes success last year. It was conducted by assistant coach Chris Vondruska and provided with permission from Marty Bartram (who has helped UPHS as what Ragsdale calls their internet/web guru)

Ragsdale hopes people will check out the site as it offers a user friendly interface, is chock full of information including a wall of fame, multimedia video and audio files, along with a social networking- discussion board section

The Copperheads, which is the club wrestling program linked directly with UPHS wrestling is on the brink of a new season and also has a new website

Chris Vondruska runs the Copperheads. Along with the following resume -- Two-time Ohio state runner-up; 2002 NHSCA Senior Nationals All-American (4th); 2002 Greco-Roman All-American; 2006 CAA champion; Two-time NCAA Qualifier and Academic All-American, (Ohio State University) -- he was recently named the North Carolina 2009-2010 Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)

The Copperhead season includes coaching from Vondruska and a full staff of assistants for grades K-12, with the Fall Session running September 9th thru October 21st

Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-7:30pm at the Union Pines Wrestling Room on the UPHS Campus in Cameron

On September 2nd, from 6-7p.m., Vondruska will be conducting a clinic for kids and parents, who are encouraged to come and watch for free and take part in a Q&A session after the demonstrations

September 7th marks registration at Union Pines from 3:45 to 6:45 pm, while September 9th is the first Practice (at 6:00PM.)

The UPHS Wrestling site is still under construction but we are have a good start.

Hi, five to all the coaches of Union Pines for taking such great care of all the wrestlers. The Vikings carry the motto, "One team = one Family"--and it's not just words. These coaches take great personal pride in attending to all of their wrestlers goals--each individually and as a team. We can't be more proud to be associated with this school, it's staff and the exceptional young men that make up the Union Pines Vikings Wrestling Team. Go, Vikings! :)
