What Are THEY Doing to the North & South?
Less than 15 minutes after selecting and ordering a (sun safari) pith helmet to better prepare for my annual fun in the sun while covering some of the nation's best budding amateur golfers out at Pinehurst No. 2, I went to the resort's website to checkout the dates for the upcoming 112th Men's North & South Amateur Championship and the 110th Women's N & S Amateur Championship --- mostly to get my summer calender set and see what was what.
The Best in the Biz

Baseball Battle of the Pines: REDUX; Frank's Game Notes
Union Pines erased a 7-1 deficit to grind out a 10-9 cross-county baseball victory over Pinecrest on a chilly Monday Night at Viking Field in Cameron. The win was thew first of the year for Union Pines and the Vikings first victory over Pinecrest in more than 13 seasons. The Vikings (1-2) scored nine runs in their final three at bats to overcome a six-run deficit and rally past Pinecrest, 10-9, in the nonconference tilt. Vike sophomore Mason Collins collected three hits and drove in four runs, including two in the bottom of the sixth inning on a bad-hop single to shortstop with two outs that tied the score at 8-all. A run-scoring single by junior center fielder Jeffrey Thompson – his third hit of the game – and a bases loaded walk by senior clean-up batter Justin Allred capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Davis earned the win pitching in relief, allowing one run over the final two innings. The junior hurler stranded the game-tying run at third base in the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, when he struck out Matt Epley on three pitches.
Dixie Youth World Series Wraps First Day of Play
Mother nature threw the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series quite a curveball Saturday as showers drenched the grounds at Hillcrest Park in Carthage. The AAA tournament was postponed, although action did take place in the Majors tournaments as all 11 qualifying state championships squads took the field along with host-team Moore County.
Heat Taking a Toll on Top Amateurs Today in Pinehurst
