Just received an email from a friend up north. Wow, she said. North Carolina hasn't copped good headlines in the national news lately. First the unsolved disappearance of the pretty Fort Bragg soldier. Then the sordid John Edwards trial (although doesn't the courthouse grass look beautiful?) Then Amendent One results. Then the guy trying to capture an alligator by throwing a towel over its head. And now the Mother's Day sermon by Charles Worley, pastor of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden (Catawba County) suggesting that gay men and women should be corraled behind a fence, concentration-camp style, and thrown food intermittenly until they died. UNC is in deep doo-doo for allegedly offering bogus courses to football players and fraud is alleged in the care of cancer patients at Duke. Sure, the media exaggerates/maximizes sensational stories. But this succession of events hurts. Let's drum up some good news for the networks

I sure hope we can. However in my opinion when one looks at the Tar Heel state, as a whole, remembering it went from going blue in the 2008 presidential general election to being a REGRESSIVE state with the recent Amendment One nonsense in JUST four short years -- it has to make you shudder. Now THEY got us under their microscope and are running revolving tails whenever we make a move. In my opinion our reputation has been seriously sullied and deservedly so. As for Edwards, well I always knew what he was all about; he never sold me an ounce of snake oil...I was bummed when he got on Kerry's ticket

It all just about makes me want to bid the South a fond and final adieu and head up NY way... For that to happen I would naturally have to convince my folks and my wife's folks to come on north too ...because family above all else is the most sacred of all things in this here world.

Don't go! I just came back, after 50 years. NC will be under the microscope during the Democratic National Convention so we don't have long to clean up our act. I'm afraid to turn on the TV this afternoon in case Edwards got off, which he probably will. When's the made-for-TV movie coming out? Did you know that Andrew Young is the son of a prominent and very fine Methodist minister, now deceased, in Asheville?

I did not know that Young's father was a Methodist minister in Asheville, which -- on a side note - I believe may be the most culturally astute locale in the state.

And I wont go yet. I rightly reckon I do have some few years at least left yet to spend down here in the south . But I do want to get to NYC sometime this year and get back on those one-of-a-kind streets/avenues just to soak up all that energy...its been too long since I was there last (three-plus years).

Sometimes a taste/fix of something that powerful can go a longs ways -- sometimes...

I guess it depends on the way you voted, doesn't it?

I consider the Amendment One results a "good news" report.

It is good to maintain a paradigm that has the divine trademark and stamp of approval, ie Jesus in his affirmation and confirmation of the divine design in his physical resurrection.

They say that "Virginia is for Lovers", well "NC is for Lovers, but one male, one female only". However, NC is better than Arkansas regardless!

FWN and DookieSaloman-- Can I help you two pack? You two together as far north of here would not just be fine with me but many many others here in NC as well.

Amendment One, A positive...... Prosecuting corrupt government officials, Sen. Edwards,Gov. Easley,State Sen. Black,, All positive.......Our bastians of liberal higher learning getting caught with their pants down, Can't clean house till you catch them, will be a positive. Democrats embarrassed to hold their convention here, North Carolina is embarrassed to have the new socialist Democrat party here. As for good news our legislature has finally shaken off democrat controll. it appears the Governors office will be under conservative management and we as a state can at last start behaving like grownups and get our financial house in order. As for the rest, Stupid and/or criminal acts abound coast to coast and effect both sides of the political spectrum and all points between.
