Let's see....I've unloaded on Duke basketball haters, Barbie-doll newscasters, the 19 Duggar kids, the weather and lots else. Not much to say today except that I just can't let those four good-looking guys hog the Staff Blogs -- because I really do believe that women think and react differently. Don't pounce; I am not, never have been, never will be a "feminist," per se. The very word suggests aggression, and we gals don't need to be aggressive. We're too smart. We accomplish by gentler means. Like arbitration. Or boycott. Or a hissy fit...all more effective than shouting, not to mention violence. You'll notice that the Iranian government allowed the MOTHERS of thse three hikers jailed for nine months on a bogus charge of crossing the border illegally to visit their children, not the fathers. Perhaps it was a ploy conceived by Mrs. Ahmadinejad. Maybe the hikers will be released in what Paul Simon immortalized as a "mother and child reunion" whereas giving in to the demands of strident fathers would signal weakness. I think women should react fearlessly to world events, economic crises or anything else from the distaff perspective, no matter how homey the idiom. Distaffs, you may recall, are spinning tools which only women used in the days before men became nurses. Given free rein I can only imagine the inventive ways we distaffs would deal with philandering politicians and hedge fund hedonists. Just a thought. Now back to the boys' room...

Yes, but don't you think if we become consistently fearless the enemy will figure out our game plan?

This is off topic...but your boys' (Duke) did it and I am happy for you... I was pulling for them too belive it or not....Ask Faith.
I had them in the finals in both Pilot pools ( which..umm.. were done all purely for fun and bragging rights..hush..hush) and even winning one bracket/ Also I had them winning in my bracket for Union Pines High School Staff, Supporters and Media (me.)
I like this entry...while I am not anti-male(...lol...)I am most assuredly pro-female...u guys rock and this clunk of hunk we call earth would not have survived this long without the oh so many strong, courageous, intelligent, resourceful, innovative, fearless and beautiful women like you that have walked its surface
Oh and BTW...the clubhouse sign up above the door may say "No girls allowed" but that is all for show...(and traditions sake)...its always more fun when the fairer sex is in the mix....whether us boys care to willingly admit it or not ;)

I just want the staff blogs to have broader appeal, not that women don't follow sports. So I'm obliged to stick in something from time to time. Most of the Duke thing was to let the gals know that basketball can be appreciated on several levels. If you enjoy watching the crowd, feeling proud with the players' parents, worrying about an injury, hurting when hated arbitrarily ... go for it. Half my fun watching Duke was wishing I had a granddaughter who brought Jon Scheyer home for Thanksgiving dinner but alas, only grandsons. The oher was remembering getting my diploma in Cameron before it was a shrine to Coach K, That's a softer -- but no less valid -- side of college basketball. Enough, until November. I'm a bit leary of women who get ahead by "being like men" rather than like themselves. But for now, we all know that if Hillary Clinton blinked -- let alone cried (she actually did, once) --the wolves would circle. Must be difficult for Michelle Obama to make news by planting an organic garden or changing her hairstyle. Like the French say, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Even better: walk softly but carry a big curling iron. Lordy, that's almost a whole nother blog...debster
