Recently we had an application from a family for assistance with purchasing flexible frames for their young child who has down syndrome. The child has insurance but it will not pay for special frames. Because of age having glasses that a more durable and mold better to the face would be the best fit. We were able to partner with a local eyecare business to get the frames and lens at a discounted price.

You see, First In Families is about meeting the need(s) of the individual with developmental disabilities and their family. We don't have a set list of things a family can choose from which may or may not be what they need for their particular situation. We truly try to be person centered: one person, one family at a time. We also try to focus on leveraging our dollars by partnering with businesses and agencies in the community. In this case we were able to get glasses for this young child that would normally have cost $198 for $118! We are always working to make our money stretch as far as possible.
