I know everyone had been waiting with bated breath wondering who would succeed the legendary Ben as the Krahnert family's next dog. We thought we were going to haold off for a while, but it turned out that Deacon, our black lab/jack russell terrier/chow mix, was kind of depressed after Ben's death. He had never lived without another dog in the house, so we decided to expedite the process.

Fortunately, it was meant to be. We found Duffy, an 8-month old Newfoundland, at Solutions for Animals down in Hoke County (Solutions does an outstanding job, by the way). The Duff is still a puppy, but he's already over 100 pounds. He could end up over 150.

He's an awesome dog. He was locked in a pen most of his life before his previous owner gave him to Solutions, so he has a lot to learn. But he's very, very smart and has a great temperament.

He looks more like a Holstein cow than a canine, as you can see below, but we're thrilled to have him in our family. The last photo has Deacon in it, which shows the incredible size difference. ImageImageImageImage

@Jkrahnert, Cool new dog...rescued dogs make awesome pets and I hope you enjoy your new friend as I do my rescued dog! Newfoundlands are a water loving breed of dog. With that said maybe you can take your new dog out and dive into this WATER-GATE story that pits Pinehurst vs Moore County administration. That is unless the powers that be at the Pilot will not let you do some real investigative reporting.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. He is a beautiful dog. You don't see many Newfs with that coloring.

Why is it that Diamonds are girls best friends, and dogs are man's best friends? Thanks for sharing....

I'm going to head to my parent's house for lunch today ... I'll see if I can shoot some video of Duffy "in action." It's quite a sight to see a dog that big run around.

John ~ how about giving the rest of us pet owners a chance to post pet pic's. Like any loving parent, we "should have" bragging rights....

I do believe I had the awesome privilege of meeting Mr. Duff before you adopted him from Solutions...(I work at a veterinary hospital and he was brought there for vaccines, etc.) You do indeed have a very laid back, sweet dog there- congratulations to you both and so glad he has a very happy ending!!

We must admit we miss Duffy at Solutions for Animals... He made us laugh hysterically everyday and he shared his appreciation for the simple things in his days. Now he has a family to give his friendship to and we are forever grateful to the Krahnert family for adopting Duffy and giving him the future he deserves. Thank you also for the opportunity of meeting Deacon! He's the BomB!
