Good that The Pit has been purchased by someone who will be able to maintain and market it. Sad that it was worth just $1 million, but that is a comment on where golf is right now - overbuilt with too many courses and not enough rounds played.
This is one of my favorite of all layouts ever, anyplace. It needs some considerable improvement in playing conditions, and maybe a design tweak here and there, but I would be against changing it radically or making it into something other than what it is - a uniquely challenging and enjoyable golf course that is unlike other typical Sandhills courses.
However, I hope PCC does not plan on tacking on an additional membership tariff and pricing The Pit out of the everyman range. If this becomes a premium course like #2, 7 or 8, I'll just have to take it off my list and reluctantly go elsewhere. Let it stay open to the public, price it right and keep it on the Capital Card. Let the tourists pay a premium to play it but don't take it away from those of us locals on the lunatic fringe who love it.
And, for heavens sake don't change the name to Pinehurst #9.
