A Day of Rest for the Air Race

Friday was a day of rest for both myself and Laurie. She decided to go home and get her plane so she would have a way back on Monday to N.J. I toured the AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association) headquarters at Frederick, MD. Enjoyed the tour and seeing all the different people that I have talked to during my 25 yrs. of membership.

We had lunch at the Taxi Way Cafe on the field along with 20-30 members of the flying teams. Went back to the hotel to get wash done and swim in the pool, a bit of relaxation before the night Melt Down Party.

An outside BBQ with a band, chiropractor, cigar sales, and helicopter rides or 30 minutes of instruction on R-22. I took the instructions and it was great to be in a different type of aircraft one with rotors. Learned to use the collector, peddles and the stick. We did an emergency landing and hovered for about 5 minutes all this for only $99.00. After the BBQ broke up we decided to go to a micro-brewery in downtown Frederick, which is a quaint town with lots of steeples.

As we were leaving the restaurant I got a call saying that I had to be at the field at 9:00 a.m. for an inspection of the aircraft. This means WE ARE IN THE TOP 15!!!!!!! Only the top ones are inspected and if anything has been changed then they can be eliminated so they inspect more than the top 10 so there is no telling what will happen tomorrow.

I feel that is a good showing for the first time racer. Calling both Laurie and Freddy to tell them the news was really exciting!!!!!!! Time will tell, but the suspense will kill us until Sunday's Banquet, wow 36+ hours to wait to hear the verdict.

Tomorrow won't come fast enough!! More on the news tomorrow night Sponsors for today are:Pete & Lee Frisko, Lynn Sheppard, Janet Kinsell, Carleen Genna, Stan Circuk,

Lordie, Barbara--good news! But you have had good news all along as you have reported your winds and speeds to us. Hope you have had fun, as well. Quite an experience, isn't it? The suspense will be killing me, as I leave Sunday a.m. for 5 days in West Virginia visiting Mother! Not taking the computer. I'll see if perhaps someone will call Mike with the results, he'll let me know. Anyway, congratulations on a good race. Ready for another one next year? Anne
