Well, all best plans sometimes do lead to delays. We got our breakfast at the hotel great place a Best Western in Cameron, MO, nice folks a place that I could see Amelia Arhart going through in the 20's & 30's very quaint & really salt of the earth folks. We got to the airport via a volunteer, fueled up, and discovered that the landing light had blown out and we needed to get a new one. The mechanics didn't have the bulbs so while they were in their supplier we managed to get ahold of them and tell them to pick one up. So about an hour later we got the bulb on it's way back to Cameron. Meantime the ladies had strawberries and cookies for us. Another gal got to the airport and gave a chair massage for 10 minutes for anyone interested. I took advantage of her, really helped getting rid of the tension.

We finally took off 10:30 a.m. and started for Murphyboro/Carbondale Airport. This was a great leg good winds, easy approach and the flyby was fast and fun 200' above the airport. Thank goodness there are waivers for all the airports in the race to go lower and faster than normal. We sat around and waited for the weather in Elkhart to clear thunderstorms and rain kept reappearing for hours.

We had free lunch and entertainment for a few hours in the lunch area. Students who attend an aviation course at the Southern Illinous University. We checked weather every 20 minutes, finally it moved east so we headed to the plane. Racer 49 was about 10th getting off for Elkhart, IN. A slight delay with the controller letting us get off and then we needed to do a flyby to depart the airport. (usually one at the beginning of a flight and anther flyby at the end when you land) We got on route and it was great, and our ground speed was over 200, we did reach 214 kts across the ground. We began our flyby at Elkhart and the controller was having difficulties which in place effected our timing and our flyby. He was confused slightly as to what we should be doing. Finally we got on the ground and both Laurie and I were glad we were happy to complete the day.

We found our hotel along with about 25 other gals had dinner and got stuck in the restaurant during a huge thunderstorm with tornadoe warnings we finally got to our room an hour later.

Too tired last night to write this but here it is this morning. Sponsors yesterday Arnold & Arnold Investigators and Denny Thompson

Good, good job, ladies! Perhaps all the storms in the midwest have been giving you some nice tail winds on the back side!! You're more than half way done by now, almost time to celebrate! Sounds as if you have been doing some good decision making. Give WV a wave for me-- Anne
