Never quite sure how to spell in Australian, or even pronunciate, but this tidbit just in from an Aussie friend. And he swears it's bloody well true: If you avoid eating bananas, you will be less tasty to the local mosquito population. That's right. If you avoid eating bananas, you won't get bitten as often. Something about nanners makes you tastier to tap into, I suppose. He claimed, as we questioned about this observation, to log onto a smart website which confirmed the statement. He said he noticed it after he started eating bananas so he didn't cramp up while swimming, and was suddenly being attacked in swarms. So he stopped eating them, and the problem went away. Could it be that it was right after heavy rains and the population of mossies had skyrocketed? Perhaps.
There are lots of things we don't understand in this world. The may be one of them. But I fully expect a scientist to apply for a grant to study the question, based on this blog entry, so we will know if it is in fact true, or absolute rubbish.
