Is it just me, or have the refs been letting play be consistently rougher this year in the ACC? I've been watching ACC basketball since 1963 and I can't ever remember the play being as physical as it's been this year. Not only under and around the basket, which you expect, but out front as well. It's gotten to the point that it has diminished the enjoyment of watching games. Sheer magnitude of strength is, or has, replacing the grace and speed and beauty that's defined the game. That may be what the ACC wants, since the league isn't the premiere league in the nation any more, at least not in many pundits' opinions. And in order to win the national tournament, you have to play physical. But I swear it's beginning to look like a rugby scrum at times than basketball. Maybe, with so many gigantic bodies out there, it's time to consider enlarging the court a little to loosen up defenses. Oh, the heresy!

Hi Pat...Girly Fan weighing in on the not-s0-friendly giants. You're right...under the baskets has become a blood sport. But the ACC has many medium-sized, graceful, totally effective players like Ish Smith, Jon Scheyer, even the obnoxiously self-aggrandizing Grievas Vasquez. But just because a player is big doesn't mean he's brutal. Look at Brian Zoubek, who announcers call The Oak, ever solid at the post. I have seen quite a bit of intentional roughness, called or not, including the expulsion of one player. Aren't these guys aware that instant replay will tattle every time?
