Several years ago, Hope Miller suffered a stroke that left her unable to walk, speak or read. Since then, she has made great strides in order to lead an independent life. Part of her recovery has included tutoring with the Moore County Literacy Council, where she works with volunteer tutor Chas Griffin once a week to strengthen her reading and speaking skills. Through their work together, the pair has discovered that singing enables Miller to speak more clearly. Miller is one of several students who benefits from the Literacy Council's largest fundraiser, the annual Spelling Bee for Literacy, which will be held Feb. 7.
