Sights and Sounds of the Palustris Festival: The Together-N-Unity Choir

Rod Brower and the Together-N-Unity Choir performed as a part of the Longleaf Cultural Theater Ensemble at the Carolina Performing Arts Center March 24 in Southern Pines. The ensemble, led by Ray Owen, actor, writer and creative director, melded various art forms together to tell a cultural story about the Sandhills. The songs that the choir performed reference the struggle of African American slaves working in the turpentine industry, while holding onto the "visions of hope that the people endured and kept close to their hearts" that God would one day deliver them to freedom.
