Nine students from three of Moore County's high schools competed in the 31st annual Picquet Music Festival presented by the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills March 14 at National Golf Club. Pinecrest High School junior Rebekah Shamberger won first place for her soprano performance of "Willow Song," from "The Ballad of Baby Doe." Bassoonist Alex Wilson from Pinecrest and alto saxophonist Tyler Young from Union Pines High School placed second and third in the competition.
