A two-crash on Monday afternoon, March 15, on N.C. 211 near Taylortown was captured on the dashboard video camera of a Taylortown police patrol car. A lone Taylortown police officer reached the scene and joined two men trying to quench the blaze with clods of dirt. An off-duty paramedic ignored the risk and climbed into the car to stabilize the injured man, who was pinned, unable to escape. The heroes in this real-life drama were honored during a recent Taylortown Town Council. Police Sgt. Joseph Scott, paramedic Joy Holden and two other men, Keith Rea and Frankie Royall, were hailed as heroes.
