Addor Day will be celebrated this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. A full day of activities and fun has been planned. Food will be available. At 11 a.m., a three-on-three basketball tournament will take place for children. At 12:30 p.m., dodgeball and horseshoes for children will be held.
A talent show will be held at 1:30 p.m. Bingo and ping-pong will be held at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m., there will be arts and crafts. The day will conclude at 7 p.m. with a community church service led by Pastor Clinton Edwards, of New Zion A.M.E. Zion Church.
Everyone in the community is urged to come out and make this a day to remember.
The first-ever "Black-White Banquet" has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 25, at the Days Inn on U.S. 1 in Southern Pines. Board members of the Addor Community Center encourage everyone in the community to support this event.

This week, a great deal of progress was made on the renovation of the fellowship hall at Mount Pleasant Church. About 90 percent of the painting is done. The new lights are up, floor and crown molding are in place. The painting will be done this week.
The expanded fire alarm system will be installed Tuesday, and if all goes well, it will be tested and certified by Wednesday for use at the beginning of Vacation Bible School.
Vacation Bible School begins at 6 p.m. Monday, July 27, and ends Friday, July 31. The hours will be 6 to 8:30 p.m.. The commencement will be held during the morning worship service Sunday, Aug. 2. Everyone is invited. Classes are for ages 3 to teens.
The church continues to remember the Charlotte Seagroves Winkler family. Her memorial service was held last Friday. Special thanks to all the women of the church for providing food for the family after the service.
The work is continuing on the church cemetery with Topographix's, of Georgia, as it continues to record unmarked graves that the ground-penetrating radar has located in the cemetery. The company will graph the current burial sites and plot out any available sites for future use. Once this is done, the church will have a complete and accurate accounting of all burial sites, potential burial plots and the ability to reserve family plots for future needs.
Everyone is invited to Bible study on Wednesday nights. It is studying Max Lucado's book on 1 Corinthians.

Congratulations to U.S. Marine John Highland Sharpe on his recent promotion to corporal. He is the youngest corporal in his 300-man unit. He is stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside near San Diego. He trains Marines in the area of combat and leadership. He is waiting to be deployed to the Middle East. His parents are the Rev. John R. Sharpe, of Greensboro, and the Rev. Rose Highland-Sharpe, of Taylortown.
Congratulations to Judith "Gigi" Lucas on her recent title as Most Photogenic at the Miss Fabulous contest in Charlotte She has been crowned queen of this competition on several other occasions. This competition is for plus-size models. Several youths from Galilee and adults from the community attended the program with Gigi's aunt, Rose Highland-Sharpe. "Gigi" hopes to implement similar events for teen girls in the Pinehurst area. Her parents are Beverly Highland and Julius Lucas.
John and "Gigi" are the grandchildren of Flossie Ingram Highland. She and all the family are very proud of them!
