Series on Caregiving Planned at SCCComfort Keepers and Sandhills Community College are partnering to present a speaker series entitled "Comfort for Caregivers: Need Support? Practical Steps When Caring for Your Loved Ones."
This free program is designed to educate seniors and their families about many of the issues that they may face when caring for their loved ones. The speaker series will feature various professionals presenting a different topic every Wednesday in April.
"We look forward to providing the forum to discuss key issues that many seniors and their loved ones face when planning for long-term care," said Chad McGlothlin, owner of the Pinehurst Comfort Keepers franchise. "Often family members play a major role in caring for a spouse or an aging parent. It is important that they understand many of the options pertaining to legal and financial planning, but also ways to take care of themselves during this critical time when they are caring for their loved ones.
"While this program is designed with the family caregiver in mind, we also encourage the attendance of professionals who serve seniors and individuals concerned about these issues for their future needs."
The five programs
in the series are:
- Understanding the Legal and Financial Issues of Estate Planning, April 2.
- The Benefits of a Caregiver Support Group (panel), April 9.
- All About Medicare, April 16.
- Take Advantage of All Resources for Caregivers, April 23.
- Caring for the Caregiver, April 30.
Two sessions will be held each Wednesday at Sandhills Comm-unity College, Van Dusen Hall, Room 103. The first session is from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and the second session is from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The speaker series is intended to be a community service and informational in nature. No solicitation will be permitted by any presenter. Speaker notes and literature will be available upon request.
