Local Web Site Expands Online Community for Parents

SandhillsKids.com, the region's only online resource for parents by parents, announces the creation of an online community.

Besides a new streamlined menu structure and interactive community calendar, the site features member blogs, forums, sports information, a shopping directory, upcoming deadlines and biweekly newsletters. These added features allow parents to share experiences, learn about the community and find family-friendly information about local activities and businesses.

Monica Zimmerman, founder of SandhillsKids, believes that "SandhillsKids is more than just a Web site, it is a resource designed to make a parent's life a little bit easier."

In the 11 months since the site's re-launch last November, SandhillsKids has had over 3 million hits, making it one of the region's fastest growing Web sites.

of SandhillsKids, attributes the site's success to its members.

"Each day we receive dozens of emails from local parents," she says. "By taking the time to answer their questions, incorporate their recommendations as well as their criticism, we're able to create an online community that provides our users with great information and a place to voice their opinions."

She says the goal of the site's newest features, the blogs and forums, is to allow parents to get input from other parents in the area. Whether a parent is looking for information about a local school or athletic program or just trying to plan the perfect birthday party, they can search for information, other parent recommendations or post their own questions.

In addition to its online community and directory, SandhillsKids offers its members a free discount card redeemable at local merchants such as Lil Branch's Children's Clothing Store as well as monthly giveaways.

"Our sponsors are an important part of the our success," says Monica Zimmerman. "Their support allows us to invest in expanding the site, help other "momprenuers" and reward area parents for using local businesses."

SandhillsKids is owned and operated by two local moms. Monica Zimmerman is a mother of two, a local business owner and full-time working mom. Rollie Sampson is also a mother of two, an Army wife and stay-at-home mom. Both women have combined their experiences, knowledge and love of their families to create SandhillsKids.com.
