Manatee Mailbox

We’ve seen mailboxes that resemble farm animals and farm machinery, a few that look like birdhouses, chalets or locomotives, but the one that never fails to make us smile is the sweet-faced manatee mailbox on New Hampshire Avenue in Southern Pines. Definitely a mammal out of water, the manatee or sea cow mailbox always draws a second look. Yet, neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night or any number of second glances keeps this manatee from faithfully performing its duty of keeping its homeowners’ mail high and dry.
