In August, The Pilot's readers were asked to let us know what they liked best about Moore County. In more than 70 categories, ranging from best pizza (Vito's Ristorante and Pizzeria) to the best things to show out-of-town guests (Pinehurst Resort), our readers told us which restaurants, businesses and services are the best Moore County has to offer.

The response was tremendous. Hundreds of ballots flooded into The Pilot's offices in response to the Readers'; Choice Best of Moore County 2007 contest, which was open to all readers of the newspaper. In fact, the number of ballots returned to The Pilot more than doubled from last year.
We thank our readers for helping us put together this section that highlights the best of our community. We thank our advertisers for continuing to support The Pilot.

We also congratulate all the winners. You've worked hard to earn this title, so sit back, bask in the limelight and continue doing whatever it is that you've been doing. Obviously, our readers think it's working.

The votes have been counted, the numbers tallied and the readers have spoken.

Following are the Moore County businesses and categories determined by readers of The Pilot to be the best in 2007:

One of the hardest parts when planning a contest such as the Readers’ Choice Best of Moore County is deciding how many and which categories to include from a nearly unending list of possible choices.

While we think we’ve done a good job of narrowing down the list, there are always going to be categories that someone will think we’ve overlooked or feel we shouldn’t have left off. Unfortunately, this can’t be helped.

However, we have decided to accommodate a few of the interesting categories or nominations that have come up during staff meetings or office chatter around the water cooler. We’re calling these choices Pilot Preferences because that’s what they are — food, people or businesses that have captured the attention and, sometimes, love of staff members here at The Pilot.
