the last week of school is usually spent playing games, watching movies, and having end of the year parties
why not just use those days as instructional days?

The school year is long enough. The teachers have not had their cost of living pay increases for several years, the last I heard. The Teacher Assistants are mostly gone. The parents take up a lot of time complaining about the teachers trying to keep order in the classrooms. The classrooms are overloaded and I must ask why would it be good to add five more days? Is there a reason?
