Youth Fire Academy at the Southern Pines Fire Department
The Southern Pines Fire Department, in conjunction with the town's Parks and Recreation department, hosted its third annual Youth Fire Academy July 9-13. Participants spent the week learning about fire safety, history and procedures culminating in a competition and graduation ceremony on the final day. Participants were split into three squads that competed against each other to demonstrate proficiency in various fire training events.

This year's youth fire academy featured 21 participants. Each participant received a medal and a Southern Pines Fire Department Youth Fire Academy badge for completion of the program.
