The Orioles captured the tournament title in the 11-12-year-old Sandhills Optimist major league tournament. The team went on quite a run after starting the season 0-6. It won eight of their last nine games, including three last-inning rallies in each tournament game. Entering the tournament as a fifth seed, the Orioles defeated the fourth, first and second seeds to win the championship.
