Under the watch of Dr. John Dempsey, Sandhills Community College has become a national leader in both academics and athletics. Dempsey has helped foster business development and given poor kids a shot at a college education. For all of those reasons, The Pilot has named Dempsey, the president of Sandhills Community College, as its Newsmaker of the Year.
