A large black bear caused quite a stir Saturday when it wandered through a Southern Pines neighborhood around 10 a.m. before eventually climbing a tree and staying put for several hours. A small crowd gathered to watch the bear resting in the tree. The bear left its perch around 3:30 p.m. and ambled away.
