Gerard Catapano, a retired doctor, began taking art classes at Sandhills Community College after he moved to Pinehurst in 1990. After demonstrating a prolific talent, he became a professor there and taught art for 12 years. When he grew bored with just painting, he turned to teaching opera, bringing Moore County residents together to share their love of the art.
