Workers dig up one of the crape myrtles from the median of U.S. 1 in Southern Pines Monday morning. The county is having the trees transplanted to several sites, including Hillcrest Park near Carthage.

Some crape myrtles that formerly graced U.S. 1 are now comfortably nestled in Hillcrest Park - in plenty of time for the first pitch Saturday for the 2011 Dixie Youth World Series.
