Mildred Mannette Purrington, 96, died peacefully at her home in Pinehurst on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, in Southern Pines.
Mildred was born in 1916 in Portland, Maine. She was the widow of Col. Richard Purrington, and they saw much of the world together during their military travels before retiring to Pinehurst in 1976.
Her bright-eyed enthusiasm for life and her witty intelligence captured the hearts of all who met her, young and old. She will be dearly missed by family and friends, though her memory will always shine bright for those who loved her.
Her husband died in 2000, and she was also preceded in death by her youngest son, William Purrington, in 2002. She is survived by her eldest son, Barry Purrington; grandchildren Heather Minnicozzi and William Purrington II; and three great-grandchildren
