Andrea Lea Dzurik Sachtleben, 66, of Pinehurst, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst, after a short illness.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Southern Pines. Interment will be private.
Andrea was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Cleveland, a daughter of Andrew and Adeline Knoska Dzurik. She graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana in 1968, where she studied speech and drama.
She was married to Paul Luther Sachtleben on Aug. 2, 1969, in Lakewood, Ohio. During their 43-year marriage they lived for many years in Illinois, Virginia and Texas, and moved to Pinehurst in 2000.
From 1998-2011, Andrea and her husband spent many years abroad in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. While in Bulgaria, Indonesia and the Philippines, Andrea worked with various International Women’s Clubs to provide funding for orphanages and the ELVIS program (English Language Visitors in Schools), helping teach English to grade school children. For the last years she had been actively involved in the League of Women Voters, the CCNC Garden Club, and various book discussion clubs.
Andrea was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Southern Pines.
In addition to her parents, Andrea was preceded in death by her brother, John.
Those who loved her and are now left to cherish her memories are her husband, Paul; sons, John Albert and Paul Andrew, Paul Andrew’s wife, Amanda, and Andrea’s granddaughter Adeline; and her sister, Sarah Dzurik Lindberg and her husband, Keith, and their children, Charles, Caroline and Colin.
