Chancey Samuel Ward Sr.

Mr. Chancey Samuel Ward Sr., 86, of Vass, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at his home.
A home-going celebration will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Open Arms Community Church with Pastor John Brown officiating, with military honors to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sam was born in Charlotte, N.C., on December 23, 1926, to Herschal and Ruby Funderburk Ward. He worked as a golf pro at Woodlake Country Club and was a member of Open Arms Community Church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine Daniel Ward; four children, Chancey Samuel Ward Jr. and wife, Elaine, of West End, Cynthia Ward Huntley and husband, Andy, of Southern Pines, Jacquelyn Ward Bettini and husband, Mike, of Aberdeen, Kenneth Ward and wife, Myrtle, of Carthage; 10 grandchildren, Tony, Danielle, Michael, Chris, Ashley, Sam III, Heather, Corrine, Mika and Amy; 14 great-grandchildren, Marcella, Gretchen, George, Lonnie, Matthew, Sarah, Emma, Alex, J.D., Tyler, Caleb, Zack, Eli and Adian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschal and Ruby Funderburk Ward; one sister, Clara McFarland; two brothers, Herbert Ward and Herschal Ward; one grandchild, Paul Bettini.
