DORN

Winnie McCracken Dorn, 99, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Stanly Regional Medical Center, in Albemarle.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kelli Sorg, the Rev. Ben Hall and the Rev. Chuck Cook. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Troy and other times at the residence on Dorell Drive in Troy.
Mrs. Dorn was born Dec. 4, 1913, in Iredell County, to John Mack McCracken and Annie Hall McCracken. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and worked as a licensed practical nurse, a bookkeeper, and was a longtime volunteer at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dorn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wright Dorn; stepson, Robert F. Dorn; brothers, Robert McCracken, Marshall McCracken, Louis McCracken and James McCracken; and sisters, Estelle M. Greene, Robena M. Hartsell, Willie Pusser and Connie M. Little.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Garman and husband, Danny, of Troy; grandchildren, Melissa Ellen Garman, of Troy, Stephanie Marie Gurney and husband, Derick, of Guam, and Danielle Leigh Garman and Raymond Meadows, of Connecticut; stepdaughters, Dorothy Dorn Couch and Louise Dorn Benner, both of Raleigh; step-grandchildren, Martha Benner Hokayem and husband, George, Anne Benner Davis and husband, Jim, Sarah Benner Scott and husband, George, Alice Benner Spickard and husband, David, Robert Dorn and wife, Amy, Kenneth Dorn and wife, Sandra, and Cindy Dorn Boggess and husband, Charlie; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
