Margie Ann Kanipe Boan Smith

Margie Ann Kanipe Boan Smith, 75, of Aberdeen, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
Margie was born April 2, 1937, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Frank Kanipe and Mattie Melton McDuffie. She was a charter member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and had retired from Belk Department Store in Rockingham. She enjoyed working with the Richmond County Board of Elections, was an avid reader, loved beach music, loved to dance, and was a member of the Sandhills Shag Club.
Margie was a warm, friendly, outgoing person who was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving are her daughters, Yvonne Boan Grady, of Southern Pines, and Lorraine Boan Zigovsky and husband, Christopher, of Pinehurst; her son, Lewis Boan and wife, Anita, of Fletcher; grandchildren, Tommy Woolard, Casey Woolard, Brent Conner, Bryan Conner, Martin Zigovsky, Melanie Boan, Madison Boan; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was not only a mother but also a friend to her children. We love you, Mom, and will miss you. You will always be in our hearts.
