Nanie “Nan” Oliphant Jones, 72, of Seven Lakes, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Quail Haven Village, in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Broad Street United Methodist Church, Statesville, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring and the Rev. Jason Harvey officiating. Burial will be private, at a later date. The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.
She was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Mooresville, to the late Robert and Alma Lowrance Oliphant. She was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren.
She was a true believer in Southern hospitality; one never left her home without feeling welcomed, well-fed and uplifted by her generous spirit. She was a member of Triplett United Methodist Church and currently a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lena O. Jenkins; and brother, Joel A. Oliphant.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerry Lee Jones; daughters, Jennifer Parker and husband, Jimmy, of Statesville, Melanie Burgin and husband, Jerry, of Jonas Ridge, and Jessica Wimberly and husband, Adam, of Seven Lakes; sister, Geraldine Avett and husband, Wally, of Murphy; brother, Robert Oliphant and wife, Peggy, of Mooresville; grandchildren, Connor, Bryson, and Jeremy Parker, Margaret and Jacob Burgin, Asher Wimberly; special nephew, J. Allen Oliphant; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
