Parthenia McCall Grady died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, from the Potters House Ministries, 311 Creek Ridge Road. The family visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Laughlin Memorial United Methodist Church and will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Potters House Ministries. Other times, the family may be contacted at 2686 Brook Meadow Drive, Brown Summit.
She was a native of Moore County and a resident of Guilford County for the majority of her life. Attending local public schools in Moore County, she graduated from West Southern Pines High School and pursued further education at North Carolina Central University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education. Additional studies followed at North Carolina A&T State University, attaining a master’s degree.
Being civic- and community-oriented, she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Greensboro Housing Coalition, a member of the Eastside Civitan Club, as well as other organizations and affiliations.
Spiritually, she was a faithful member of Laughlin Memorial United Methodist Church, where she actively served as a lay speaker, Chancel Choir, Inspirational Choir, United Methodist Women, youth leader and a trustee.
She is survived by a son, Bishop A. Manwell Grady (Linda); daughter, Chantelle V. Grady; grandchildren, Angelica Grady and Breanna Turner; sisters, Alona Henriquez (Herbert) and Jeannie Eaton (Thomas); brother, Rickey Norman (Carolyn); aunt, Vivian Mc Call; special friends, Walter and Yvonne Johnson and family, Ruth Hallman Clinton, Luvenia Turner, Kathy Allen and Isabella “Issy” Davis; other relatives and many treasured friends.
