Donald F. Evans
Donald Frederick Evans, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Hospice House in Pinehurst, following a valiant battle against cancer.
Don was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Greensboro, to Cheyney Stauffer Evans and Margaret Hall Evans. He was raised in Greensboro, and summers were spent at the family home in Myrtle Beach.
Don graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Order of the Old Well and Sigma Chi fraternity. He finished with a B.S. in economics.
He served as a lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961, stationed in Sasebo, Japan.
Over the years, Donald Evans established a diverse range of businesses, all of which were evidence of his creative and entrepreneurial skills.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and father; his son Durell Evans; brothers David Evans and Cheyney Evans; and sister, Margaret Evans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Margaret; children, Carothers (Car) Evans and wife, Heidi, of Ponte Vedra, Fla., John Evans, of Pinehurst, and Katherine D. Evans, of Houston; five grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Evans, and Austin, Hunter, and Duncan Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for the family are planned.
